Join your Centipede guide (in colonial costume) on Saturday, August 8, 2015 from 11:AM to 12:30PM on a stroll through the most historic square mile in the United States. The tour will begin at the Wyndham Hotel and end at The Irish Memorial.
Sites will include …
- Liberty Bell, the hallowed symbol of our nation’s freedom.
- Independence Hall where two of our nation’s most important documents – the Declaration of Independence and the United States Constitution – were created.
- Statue of Commodore John Barry, the Father of the American Navy.
- Carpenters’ Hall, where the First Continental Congress met in 1774 to discuss the grievances of the colonies against Great Britain.
- Old St. Joseph’s Church, the first Roman Catholic congregation from 1733 until the American Revolution where Mass could be offered publicly.
- Mary’s Church which was the second Roman Catholic Church in Philadelphia, built in 1763. Buried in the cemetery are John Barry and Michel Bouvier, an ancestor of Jacqueline Bouvier Kennedy.
- Man Full of Trouble Tavern, the only surviving tavern building from pre-Revolutionary Philadelphia.
Price is $18.00 per adult and $12.00 per child 10 years and younger.
